Housing Benefit

If you are on a low wage, or receive welfare benefits, or are retired and your income or savings are below a certain level, you may be able to get help with your rent from Housing Benefit.   We will give you assistance in helping you complete these forms.   If you apply for Housing Benefit, please note:

• You are still responsible for paying the rent.
• You are responsible for your Housing Benefit claim.
• You will have to pay any rent not covered by Housing Benefit.

The usual reasons rent is not covered by Housing Benefit are:

• Late application:  so always apply as soon as you have signed your tenancy agreement
• Late renewal:  so always complete your annual renewal form on time
• Incomplete application:  so always send all the information required with your claim form
• Incorrect information:  so always let them know of changes in your household

We will

• Answer any questions about issues that might affect your claim.
• Tell you how to have the Housing Benefit paid direct to us.
• Let you know if your Housing Benefit payment stops or is suspended, if payments are sent direct to the Association.
